Bourne Bullets News

Pedalpushers Circuit Race League Race #4, Elvedon Circuit Race #5, National Series (Lichfield)

It was a busy weekend of racing for Bourne Bullets riders last weekend.

On Sunday, the club held their annual circuit races at RAF Barkston near Grantham and despite the warm sunny conditions, the riders were in for a hard days racing with a 20mph wind sweeping across the exposed course.

The Bullets had riders across all the age groups and with the national youth circuit championships taking place this weekend in Blackpool, riders were looking to put on a good display and give themselves a boost ahead of the biggest race of the year.

Unsurprisingly, it was Maddie Gammons who had the best results for the club. Firstly she obliterated the under 14 girls field with the kind if attacking riding everyone has come to expect of her and then 5 mins later she took 2nd in the under 16 girls race.

Adam Botteley also rode well finishing 5th in the under 14 boys race.

Alex Galpin placed 5th in the under 10’s race with his brother Dan just behind in 7th.

Other top rides were by Jess Woodworth 4th under 14 girl, Beth Wren 4th under 12 girl and Aaron Bateman 8th under 14 boy.

On Saturday, the Bullets were also in action at Elvedon near Thetford to contest the 5th round of the summer series. Aaron Bateman came 6th in the under 14’s, while Robbie Ward and Jamie Nation both finished just outside the top 10 in the under 16’s.

Also racing on Saturday were Maddie, Adam and Campbell Pollock at the latest round of the national series at Curborough near Lichfield. Maddie placed an excellent 5th while Adam placed 42nd and Campbell just missed out on qualifying for the final placing 31st in his semi final.

Lincolnshire District GHS Championship (18th June)
(Finally!) A warm summers evening saw 8 Bourne Bullets line up to race in the Lincolnshire District GHS Championship on our own Greatford 10 mile course. It was a very successful night for the Bullets with strong rides from everyone, including several personal bests.
In the scratch competition, Tim James took 4th, followed by club mates Campbell Pollock in 5th and Adam Botteley in 6th.
In the handicap competition there was a fantastic win for Jessica Wordworth with Maddie Gammons in 3rd, Robert Ward 4th and Tim James 5th.
Tim, Adam and Maddie all won their age group competitions and qualify for the national finals. Maddie also came 2nd female (despite competing against much older girls!).
Well done to all Bourne Bullets!
Thanks to all helpers and marshals and in particular to the timekeepers Sharon Fenson and Nicky Ellis of Spalding CC and to Gabby Day for making the prize presentations.  Thanks also to The Five Horseshoes in Barholm for their help freely given.
