Now that the winter cyclo-cross season has finally come to an end it was time at the weekend for the clubs specialist road riders to start their 2016 campaign.
A small, but very strong line up headed to Redbridge, NE London and scene of teammate Lizzie Catlows first win of the season a fortnight ago. Star of the show was second year junior, Robbie Ward, who made the most of an early attack by teammate Adam Botteley, to counter attack brilliantly as his younger teammate was caught, and forge a 30 sec gap with 3 other riders. Despite a late puncture, which forced a late wheel change for Robbie, he held his nerve, got back to the leaders and had enough in the tank to force a split in the group, which by now had a commanding lead over the depleted bunch.
At the finish Robbie finished in a career best 2nd place.
In the earlier under 14 boys race, Bryn Richards, once again rode really strongly, getting into the winning move, but after putting in a stinging attack with two miles to go, Bryn was caught in sight of the finish line and had to settle for 10th place.
Finally, Mark Botteley rode the senior race, finishing in 21st place after being held up by an 8 man pile up early on in the 30 mile race!
