Bourne Wheelers were well represented at the latest round of the Lincolnshire Handicap Road Race League.
4 riders took to the start line on a cool, but sunny evening as experienced riders Bart Kieres, Przemek Jasnikowski and Martin Rolbin were joined by Antony Gough who was making his road racing debut.
The race was run over 7 laps of a 3.6 mile loop near Aisthorpe, north of Lincoln, making a 25 mile course in total. The undulating circuit was marked by a fast sweeping downhill section halfway round and a sharp steep hill about 300m before the start/finish line and it was the make up of the course that would prove crucial to race tactics on the night.
Martin and Antony started in the first group of riders, with Prze in group 3 and Bart joining the fastest riders in group 4. After a steady start, Martin brought Antony to the head of the first group, with Antony then getting away and edging a slight lead towards the end of the 2nd lap. Meanwhile Bart and Prze were both well placed in their respective groups as they proceeded to chase down the early starters.
Antony continued to open up the gap at the front as he stayed away solo for the next 4 laps (15 miles) before finally being caught by the fast moving peloton as they approached the hill for the penultimate time.
As the race reached it’s conclusion, Bart got up well to finish in 6th place with Prze finishing in the main bunch. Martin and Antony came in shortly after to conclude a hectic nights racing.
