Race Round-Up

(Report by Mark Botteley)

Last weekend saw the busiest three days racing of the year for the Bourne Wheelers.

The ever growing youth section, affectionately known as the “Bullets” had a great weekend, where they picked up a 2nd and 3rd team prize at the inaugural Spalding Grand Prix Festival on the Saturday and Sunday, despite having the youngest team present.

On the Saturday Molly Peel, Penny and Edward Linsdell, Callum and Conor Lee and Eliash Polak took a fine 2nd place in the Go-Race events at the festival and on the Sunday Molly, Penny and Ed were joined by Bryn and Emily Richards and Harry Garfield to take an equally impressive 3rd place in the under 14 Italian Pursuit around the town centre, despite being all under 12’s.

Bryn Emily and Harry wern’t finished there as they all rode at Ixworth on the Bank Holiday Monday at Ixworth, where Bryn took a magnificent 2nd place in the under 12’s race.
Also racing at Ixworth were established under 16 performers Adam Botteley and Jess Wodworth, who placed 13th and 4th respectively in there races.
Bourne teenager  Sian Botteley, riding for Velosure Starley Primal rode the womens race at Ixworth and took a fine 3rd place, easily outsprinting her rivals in the bunch sprint for 3rd place. This completed a busy weekend for Sian after she finished a creditable 58th in the inaugural Womens Tour of Yorkshire on the Saturday.

Further afield Tim James and Maddie Gammons competed in the Isle of Man in the Islands Youth Tour. Unfortunately for both the weather was horrendous, especially in the junior boys races.
However both battled throughout there respective races with Tim, competing against riders a year older than himself, placing an excellent 38th overall out of 80 competitors, and Maddie gaining 8th place in the final stage around Ramsay, helping her to move upto 12th overall.
