Cyclo Cross – National Trophy Series Report

(Report by Mark Botteley)

Last weekend saw 15 year old Bourne schoolgirl Maddie Gammons clinch the overall National Trophy Under 16 Girls cyclo cross series. Heading into the 6th and final round at Derby, Maddie had to finish within one place of her chief rival Rhiana Stoves to secure the overall victory.

After making a strong start which saw her lying in 3rd place after the first of 3 laps, Maddie was put under pressure from Rhiana who got ahead of the teenager as Maddie temporarily dropped down to 5th.

However Maddie wasn’t to be out done and digging deep, she overhauled Rhiana with a dominant last lap and in the process nearly claiming 2nd on the day as her main rival dropped down to 5th on the day, giving Maddie a winning margin of 17pts.

Bournes other talented teenager, Tim James, placed 12th in the Junior Boys race. As a result of a series of consistent placings, Tim finished 8th overall.

This weekend sees the duo travelling to Abergavenny in Wales for the National Championship race.

Congratulations Maddie and Tim and Good Luck for the weekend 🙂
