Racing Round-Up (24th April)

Last weekend saw the clubs youths racing all over the country. In form junior Sian Botteley raced at the Olympic velodrome in London on Good Friday placing a very commendable 9th in the scratch race.where she was up against the world junior silver medallist as well as a trio of national champions.

On Easter Monday Sian faired even better with a fine 6th place in the scratch race at Manchester velodrome. Her brother Adam made his debut on the boards on Monday, finishing comfortably in the bunch in the unknown distance and scratch race. Maddie Gammons was also in action on Monday at Manchester. Her best performances being a pair of 8th placings in the elimination and scratch races.

Also on Monday, five youths travelled down to Redbridge, NE London, where Tim James (4th Under 16 boys) and Jess Woodworth (4th Under 14 girls) both performed really well, but it was 9 year old Charley Woodworth, who had the best placing for the club with a great 2nd place in the under 10 girls race. Teammate Dusty Saines finished 6th, while Robbie Ward came 7th in the under 16 boys race, just behind Tim.
Jason Burrill was once again the clubs sole adult rider racing this weekend. He joined Sian at the Olympic velodrome on Friday, where he was up against the likes of Ed Clancy. He finished 11th in the scratch race, just missing out on qualifying for the final.
On the Monday, Jason travelled down to Herne Hill, where despite being involved in an early crash, he dusted himself down to participate in a full race programme, with a 12th place in the kilo being his best result.
