With the winter months fast approaching, the cycling season has moved to the off road cyclocross discipline. Bourne’s riders have been active for the last few weeks. The youth squad have been dominant locally, with notable performances from: Tim James who has won two of Lincolnshire league races, and Maddie Gammons and Penelope Linsdall both won the under 16 girls and under 10 girls categories respectively, at Spalding. Also, new rider Jess Woodworth has placed 2nd under 14 girl in all of her races so far. In the senior races, the club have fielded more riders than ever before with Bart Kieres the highest placed rider.
Last weekend saw the first national trophy cyclocross series race of the 2013 season, at a wet and muddy Abergavenny in Wales. Maddie Gammons, in her first national level race since moving up an age category into under 16, had an incredible race, far surpassing anything she expected, with a brilliant third place just behind multiple time national champions, Charlotte Broughton from Leicester, and Jess Roberts from Wales. This result was gained despite a heavy fall midway through the race. Also competing at Abergavenny was Tim James, however Tim had less luck than his younger teammate, crashing early on and dropping to the back of the field.
This week, the Bourne squad is heading over to race in the highly competitive Notts and Derby cyclocross series race at Bingham, where they hope to continue the run of good form.
