Circuit Racing Round-Up (29th & 30th June)

(Report by Mark Botteley)

Pedalpushers Circuit Race League (Race #4)

Last weekend saw the Wheelers promoting their annual circuit races at RAF Barkston near Grantham as part of the Pedalpushers Circuit Race League. Despite the warm sunny conditions, the riders were in for a hard days racing with a 20mph wind sweeping across the exposed course.

The Wheelers had riders in nearly all of the 8 races, with some competing for the first time.

Unsurprisingly, it was Maddie Gammons who had the best results for the club. Firstly she obliterated the Under 14 Girls field with the kind of attacking riding everyone has come to expect of her and then 5 mins later she took 2nd in the Under 16 Girls race.

The other rider to really shine was James Gelsthorpe in the 4th Cat Senior race, where he placed 2nd after a late burst 6 laps from home saw him pull well clear of the field, but not quite catching the leader who finished 10 secs ahead. James was backed up by a solid ride from Bart Kieres that placed him 8th.

Adam Botteley also rode well finishing 5th in the Under 14 Boys race.

Alex Galpin placed 5th in the Under 10’s race with his brother Dan just behind in 7th.

Other top rides were by Jess Woodworth 4th Under 14 Girl, Beth Wren 4th Under 12 Girl and Aaron Bateman 8th Under 14 Boy.

Elvedon Circuit Race #5

The day before on the Saturday, a quintet  of Bourne Wheelers riders travelled down to Elvedon, near Thetford, to contest the 5th round of the summer series. In the Senior Race Jason Burrill suffered an unfortunate puncture, but Mark Botteley placed an excellent 7th.

Aaron Bateman came 6th in the Under 14’s, while Robbie Ward and Jamie Nation both finished just outside the top 10 in the Under 16’s.

National Series (Lichfield)

Also racing on Saturday were Bullets riders, Maddie, Adam and Campbell Pollock at the latest round of the national series at Curborough near Lichfield. Maddie placed an excellent 5th while Adam placed 42nd and Campbell just missed out on qualifying for the final placing 31st in his semi final.

Congratulations to all our riders flying the Wheelers flag!
