Bourne Wheelers quartet of Sian Botteley, Campbell Pollock, Adam Botteley and Maddie Gammons, all produced quality rides in the Lincolnshire qualifying race for the National Youth 10 mile Championships to be held in Berkshire in September. As a result of their efforts Bourne will have 4 riders present at the National Final, the biggest sized team out of all the local clubs.
Fastest of the four was Campbell Pollock with 24:56, although unfortunately with only one rider per age group able to progress to the final, Bourne’ other competitor in the 14 year old age group, Tim James, missed out despite a very good ride of 26:44.
2nd fastest on the night from the club was Sian Botteley with 26:22. Sian has now qualified for the 2nd successive year for the showpiece event, and will be hoping to move up from her 15th place in the final last year.
Next were the 13 year old boys and Adam Botteley produced yet another personnel best, his third in the last 3 weeks, with 27:27, to join his sister in the final, and finally to cap a superb display by the young team, Maddie Gammons showed that she will go into the final as one of the favourites in the 12 year old girl category with another personnel best of 29:06.
Last weekend saw the clubs top road rider Mark Botteley riding the 5 day Tour of Wales as part of a Lincolnshire select squad. Covering 250 miles over the 5 days, Mark finished 57th overall out of a field of 101 riders.
