Last weekend saw the Bourne Wheeelers road racing team achieve their best results of the year to date.
Racing in the 4th round of the South Lincs Road Race league at Yarborough in Lincoln, the clubs riders produced 3 victories. 7 year old brothers Alex and Dan Galpin claimed 1st and 2nd respectively in the U8 catergory, with their team mate Alex Gammons not far behind in 5th place. Maddie Gammons and Sian Botteley had two convincing victories in the U14 and U16 girls races. Of the older boys, once again it was Tim James with the best result placing 3rd in the U14 boys, with Dan Burton and Adam Botteley just outside the top 10. Campbell Pollock was the clubs lone representative in the U16 boys race and having got in the winning break at the beginning of the race, had the misfortune of slipping back due to illness, but still carried on to finish in 8th place.
Of the seniors, James Gelsthorpe had the best race. Always near the front of proceedings, James recorded his first ever top 10 position in the supporting 4th catergory race, coming home in 9th place.
In the senior race, Mark Botteley, flew the flag for the club, and as James had done in the previous race, was never far from the action, but in the end had to settle for 15th place out of the 40 riders that started.
Once again, the clubs riders didn’t get favourable conditions on a cold, damp evening for the 6th round of the Be-Well Evening 10 league. On a shortened 8.9 mile course due to road works in Little Bytham, 23 riders faced the time keeper, and it was a familiar story at the top of the leader board with James Gelsthorpe coming first with 22:34. 2nd on the night was Mark Robinson 23:12, with Mark Botteley 3rd, with 23:41.
As expected Campbell Pollock was first of the youths to finish with 24:20, while Jemma Empson was first lady with 28:06. Jemma now moves to the top of the handicap league, despite not winning the handicap prize on the night. Damien Rutterford, achieved top spot in the handicap, after recording 31:47, whilst Maddie Gammons came 2nd with 29:10.
Other times were: Keith Munton 23:53; Patrick Lidstone 25:19; Phil Galpin 25:26; Steve Collins 25:36; Simon Ayliff 25:55; Jason Burrill 26:10; Cliff Hilless 26:13; Steve Cleland 26:24; Sam Gandy 26:53; Paul Gandy 27:49; Colin Gilbert 28:02; Neil Chamberlain 28:27; Adam Botteley 28:51 and James Nation 36:12.
